FALL 2022 LEADERSHIP BOARD
Faculty Advisor
Michelle Dean, Ph.D.
|
My name is Dr. Michelle Dean, and I serve as Faculty Advisor to the SHRM chapter at SDSU. I joined the student SHRM chapter at LSU as an undergraduate and it was pivotal for me in piquing my interest in HR and helping me to see the many paths a career in HR can take. I am happy to help students have that same “ah ha” moment that happened for me when I joined SHRM as a student. I am proud to advise a nationally recognized SHRM chapter which has received the top merit designation given to SHRM chapters, the Outstanding Chapter Award, in 2014, 2015, and 2017 and the SHRM Superior Merit Award in 2016. Our chapter has been recognized by SDSU receiving the Outstanding Organization Award from Associated Students, SDSU Dean of Students, and the Fowler College of Business, respectively, in recognition of our chapter’s commitment to excellence in student professional development.
We are open to all majors, and I hope you’ll check out our website, come to weekly meetings and events, and talk to our officers and members about SHRM. Hope to see you at an upcoming meeting! |

Minor: Political Science Year: Senior Hometown: Milpitas, CA I joined SHRM in Fall of 2020 because it was the perfect opportunity to learn more about the field and network with like-minded individuals. Major: Business Management Human Resources
Year: Senior Hometown: San Diego, CA Hi, I’m Calista and I am the executive secretary for the fall 2022 semester. I am a senior majoring in Business Management with a specialization in Human Resources and I have been with SHRM SDSU for 2 years now. SHRM SDSU really helped me learn and dive deep into the HR field while also connecting me to students who shared the same interest. This chapter has given me so many opportunities to grow as an individual, a leader, and experience so many events. This past summer I had the opportunity to attend the national SHRM conference in New Orleans, Louisiana where I got to engage with HR professionals and attend different speaker sessions. I learned so much from that experience and it continues to help structure my future career. If not for SHRM SDSU, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. |

Major: Business Management with a Specialization in Human Resource Management
Minor: Personality and Social Psychology Year: Senior Hometown: San Diego, CA Hi everyone, my name is Ayah Bayasi, I am a senior at San Diego State University, and am currently the Executive Treasurer of SHRM SDSU. I joined SHRM my first semester at SDSU and it has been the best decision I made in undergrad, it has helped me learn so much about HR and networking. I joined because I wanted to learn more about the world of HR, as an incoming transfer student I was new to HR and didn't know where to start, and this was the best place to begin my journey. I learned what place HR can take in a company and what roles within HR that I would be most interested. Along the way I made so many life long friends and connections, but my favorite memory from joining this organization would have to be traveling to New Orleans for the annual National SHRM conference. Overall I have had an incredible time here and hope to be able to continue working with SHRM SDSU for as long as I can! |

I'm a senior majoring in HR management here at SDSU and this is my 2nd tour as Co-Media & Marketinv. I initally joined SHRM SDSU only for networking purposes, but suffice to say, it has evolved into something more than that. SHRM SDSU has helped me grow both professionally and as a person overall. I have learned so much from SHRM, and I intend on giving back by building this amazing community and resources for HR professionals. Major: Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations
Minor: Television, Film & New Media Year: Senior Hometown: Chula Vista, CA Hello!! I initially joined SHRM last semester but would show up to the meetings since Fall ‘21 since I had some free time and would accompany my friend. I eventually got more into this organization as the time went on and realized I wanted to become an officer, but more so in my realm since I’m not a management major. This is why I chose my current position. I didn’t really have a lot of HR knowledge prior to joining this organization, besides the basic premise that jobs entail. I really like this organization because I feel like I can be myself and I’m learning a lot in the process, this is extremely helpful considering I’m graduating in December as well. I also joined this organization because I needed a professional club that would help me better prepare myself and be more professional. SHRM is open to all majors regardless of your knowledge in the field and we welcome everybody with open arms :) |

Year: Senior Hometown: San Diego, CA I joined SHRM because I wanted to learn more about recent updates in the field and to make connections while doing so. I am glad I get to make friends with people who are also studying or interested in HR, as well as increasing my network with HR professionals. I've had a great time in this organization and have been part of so many amazing experiences, like attending professional HR events and promoting our club on campus. My favorite memory would be attending the National SHRM Conference in New Orleans with the other officers. Outside of SHRM, I am an HR intern at Manpower San Diego, the Executive Vice President at Rotaract of SDSU, a part of the Hispanic Serving Institution Advisory Board, and a part of the Fowler Scholars program. I love hiking, weightlifting, boxing, backpacking, paddle-boarding, and soccer. |

Major: Business Management W/ Emphasis in Human Resources
Minor: Industrial/Organizational Psychology Year: Junior Hometown: El Dorado Hills, CA I joined SHRM for the first time during the spring semester of 2022, and it was one of the best decisions I made! Though my interest of HR was relatively new when I joined, this organization allowed me to expand my knowledge on all that the world of Human Resources has to offer! The events that we hold are amazing opportunities to get connected to real world executives, and this is actually how I landed the job that I currently have. My favorite memory from SHRM was attending the National conference that was held over the summer in New Orleans; I got to meet and network with amazing HR professionals/ students and had my eyes opened up to the endless opportunities connected to HR! |

Major: Psychology with an Industrial/Organizational emphasis
Year: Senior Hometown: San Diego, CA My name is Sofija and this is my second semester in SHRM, and my first semester serving as an officer. I started my undergrad as an electrical engineering major, but quickly realized I was passionate about psychology. After learning about the field, I found that I was most interested in organizational cultures and work-life balance. I joined SHRM to connect with people who share similar career interests and to grow my network. This organization has given me a sense of community and has taught me important leadership and teamwork skills. Going to the annual SHRM conference this year and getting to meet well-known professionals in the field was a huge highlight of my summer! Outside of my professional life, my main interests revolve around physical activity and creative writing. |

Year: Sophmore Hometown: San Jose, CA Hi everyone! I'm Bri Victoria and I'm SDSU SHRM's Development Director for Fall 2022. I joined SHRM because I wanted to expand my experience in the industrial/organizational psychology field, and SHRM was the perfect club! I first heard about the club from a friend in the club and I joined immediately after. Outside of SHRM, I'm currently a research assistant for a lab at school. When I'm not busy with school, you can find me listening to music, hanging out with friends, baking, or attending concerts in the area. Even though this is going to be my first semester as an officer for SHRM, I'm excited to meet everyone and to be involved in what SHRM has to offer for the fall semester :) |

Major: Business Management with an emphasis in Human Resources
Year: Senior Hometown: San Diego, CA Hi guys, my name is Trenten and I am currently a senior, majoring in HR. Some fun facts about me are that I am a San Diego native and my favorite TV show is Friends! I first joined SHRM to build connections and learn more about what SHRM had to offer as well as gain more guidance into the paths offered for HR majors. I think that I have learned a lot from SHRM, including learning more about HR professionals and what they do, as well as improving my resume and interviewing skills. I was able to gain a lot of insight in learning more about how the role of HR operates in the workplace and how fundamental they are to each business. I would say that a favorite memory of mine from SHRM was going to New Orleans for the SHRM Conference with the rest of the board members. I got to meet so many new people and I enjoyed my time in New Orleans. I learned a lot in the workshops and grew a lot professionally. Lastly, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or comments! |

Major: Business Management with specialization in Human Resources
Year: Senior Hometown: Roswell, NM Hi everyone! As transfer student form San Diego Miramar College I joined the SHRM chapter back in 2021 as soon as we were able to come back to in-person classes thanks to this amazing HR professor. Thank you my previous military experience i learned i wanted to have a career in the Management field but thank to SMHR i found that that the Human Resources branch was my calling. I started as a member and now I hold the Alumni Relations Director position and i cannot be any happier! Thanks to SHRM I've gained for much knowledge in the with HR, networked with HR professionals in and out of San Diego, and formed log-lasting relationships with other student leaders. Being part of SHRM was the best decision for me to become more involved with my University, College, and of course HR students and other professionals in short amount of time. SHRM has truly being a family to me and cannot wait to give back to the Chapter and the students with my current position. I am super excited for this Spring 2022 semester! Historian

Major: Business Administration Management with a specialization in Entrepreneurship
Minor: Religious Studies Year: Senior Hometown: Imperial Beach, CA I have been in SDSU for some time now, and because of work and other various responsibilities, I could not be part of the SDSU community. Last semester, with the help of a friend, SHRM was introduced to me. I made connections with other students, and I thought it would be a great way to meet new people and network with various professionals who could teach me about the workforce. I was right; the first meeting I attended taught me many things from real professionals. My background is Business administration/ management- entrepreneurship, Religious Studies, and now being an officer in a Human Resources organization is confusing to most. Still, I firmly believe that knowledge in the field is as necessary as cultural intelligence. I decided to take on the Historian position because I thought it fit my abilities the most. However, I am more excited about what I will learn this semester and how many people I will continue to meet while in the organization. |
