SHRM Certified Professional (CP) Exam
SHRM has established a behavioral competency-based certification, the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP®) for early- and mid-career professionals. Students may also take the exam. For more information on student eligibility for the SHRM Certified Professional Exam please click here. The SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge™(SHRM BASK™) serves as the basis for the framework for items written on the SHRM-CP. The SHRM BASK defines both behavioral competencies and the knowledge areas necessary for HR professionals to perform effectively in the workplace. The behavioral competencies are grouped into three clusters: Leadership, Interpersonal, and Business. The knowledge domains are grouped into three domain areas: People, Organization, and Workplace. For additional information, please see the SHRM BASK website.
On January 4, 2022, SHRM modified its certification eligibility criteria. The updated criteria open the pathway for students to apply to take the SHRM-CP/SCP certification exam. Students who perform HR duties and wish to verify, validate, enhance and/or expand their HR capabilities are likely candidates for SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification. SHRM membership is not required for eligibility and individuals need not be employed at the time they apply.
